Hi, I’m Sam. And I look at things a bit differently.
New York’s my home now — but the journey that brought me here has been a whirlwind of contrasts to date.
Being an outsider amidst diverse settings has been the theme of my life as far as I can remember. I grew up as a third-culture kid — born in Jordan, but raised in Qatar by expat parents. There, I attended an international British school. Made friends from all walks of life. Witnessed the effects of war through Desert Storm. And at 16 moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Yet another world, that once again was miles apart and miles different. I never had a single anchored home, which often left me feeling like I never fit in. A black sheep. A sentiment that shapes the way I view the world.
Today, I capture those stories through my lens. I freeze moments of connection and detachment against the backdrop of life's vibrant contrasts. Through my photography, I invite you to wonder about the lives of the people I photograph. Because, you know, we might have different stories, but we're all just fellow wanderers on this shared planet.
